President's Letter

Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America

Grand Lodge of Ohio

Welcome letter from the President

While our Order, founded in 1905 is now 119 years old, the oldest and largest organization in the United States of Italian-American men and women, much of current importance is happening in the Order, and there are many reasons why you should be a member.

The Order is engaged and assertive, thru its anti-defamation arm, The Commission for Social Justice (CSJ), in combatting negative stereotyping of Italian-Americans and fighting current trends of states, municipalities, and groups to slander and denigrate our beloved heritage.

The philanthropic arm of the OSDIA, the Sons of Italy Foundation (SIF) has contributed over $165 million to education (including scholarship opportunities for young persons of Italian descent), medical research, cultural preservation, disaster relief, veterans’ causes, and more.  At the State and local level, The Grand Lodge of Ohio also offers annual scholarships to children/grandchildren of members.   Many of our members’ children/grandchildren have benefited from these scholarships.  Many of our local lodges also give scholarships to members or members children/grandchildren. The local lodges and the Grand Lodge of Ohio Foundation, through the National Sons of Italy Foundation donate to fund the search for cures to Alzheimer’s, Cooley’s anemia, Autism, and cancer as well as for disaster relief in Italy and the U.S. and veterans’ causes.  We also adopted a program to assist our members who were negatively affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. This is a lot to be proud of.

The Italian America magazine, a benefit of membership, is better than ever with feature stories, profiles, recipes, book reviews and much more for people of Italian heritage.  Further, membership in the Order brings with it significant benefits in terms of special discounts on products and services in the Members Only section of our website, including discounts with various companies for office supplies, car rentals, life insurance, financial and identity theft security services, and the like.

Most importantly, membership in an OSDIA lodge is a great way to preserve and celebrate your Italian culture and heritage and to share celebratory events with fellow Italian Americans.  There is power in numbers and numbers in unity.  We will keep our heritage and culture strong by joining together as members of the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America.

We are dedicated to promoting our Italian culture, heritage, traditions, language, food, family, and the legacy of our ancestors in a fun and friendly environment.

If you have any questions we would be delighted to try to answer them.  Please feel free to call on us by phone or email: [330-493-9203; soigrandlodgeofoh@att.net] We would be happy to send you an application for membership.
